            Lane/Street Closure – West Broad Street, Brook Road, North Adams Street

WHO: City of Richmond Department of Public Works

WHAT: Street/Lane Closure

WHEN: Initial Phase - Starting Wednesday, September 28, 2016 thru Friday, October 28, 2016

WHERE: The following areas will be impacted:

• Brook Road will be closed permanently between West Broad Street and North    
    Adams Street.  Local sidewalk access to businesses will not be impacted
• West Broad Street parking lane westbound and sidewalk between Brook Road and North 
    Adams Street will be closed
• West Broad Street travel lane westbound between Brook Road and North Adams Street will
    be closed during work hours (Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

PARKING: Parking restrictions will be in place in the following areas:

• Parking will be restricted on the east side of North Adams Street from the alley north to West
   Marshall Street.
• Parking will be eliminated on the section of Brook Road being permanently closed

BACKGROUND: There will be a permanent street closure and temporary lane closures in the above areas in accordance with Council approved resolution 2010-R171-180 and the Planning Commission authorization for the development of the Maggie L. Walker Memorial Plaza.


Work in this area will result in the inclusion of a public plaza around commemorative artwork in honor of Maggie L. Walker. The project will bring to fruition the vision laid out in the 1992 Broad Street Streetscape Design Guidelines. Streetscape improvements will be made to the entire area around the triangular parcel bounded by North Adams Street, West Broad Street, and Brook Road.
