Collision and Fire Impacts Downtown Traffic
A tanker truck collision on Interstate 64/95 in downtown Richmond has disrupted traffic in the area.
At approximately 12:04 p.m., Richmond Police Department officers were called to the interchange of Belvidere Street and I-64/I-95 to assist Virginia State Police and the Richmond Fire Department with the collision. A tanker truck, operating on the interstate, crashed at the underpass of Belvidere Street and caught fire.
Traffic has been impacted throughout the downtown area as vehicles are detoured off the interstate and the major artery of Belvidere Street and the interchange with the interstate are closed.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and take alternate routes, such as the Downtown Expressway.
Belvidere Street will remain closed between Leigh and Mitchell streets and the interchange with I-64/I-95 will remain closed until the collision is cleared and the overpass is inspected.
