BACKGROUND: The area
will be closed to allow the contractor to test the Highway Water Detection
System.
Note: High Water Detection
Systems provide state-of-the-art public safety warnings to alert the public
to stay off flooded roadways. During flooding, this advance warning station
will advise motorists of flooded roadways by activating flashing beacons,
message signs, and automatic road barrier gates. Typical problem sites include
low water crossings, underpasses, and areas that are prone to coastal flooding.
This system uses software to continuously monitor flooding conditions in the
area and will issue alerts to key personnel in the Department of Public
Utilities when there is a
problem.
