WHEN:  Monday, September 28 through Friday, January 29, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (weather permitting)

WHERE: Located in the 2nd and 6th voter districts:

·         1st Street from Franklin Street to Duval Street

·         3rd Street from Franklin Street to Broad Street

BACKGROUND:  There will be intermittent lane closures in the areas listed above for the first phase of construction for the Downtown Buffered Bike Lanes Project. The project includes: pavement markings, crosswalks, signs, flexi-posts, and select intersections with corner enhancements. This project will lower instances of speeding and make it safer for people who walk, bicycle, and drive on 1st and 3rd streets.

Note: Residential and emergency access along both 1st and 3rd streets shall be maintained at all times. The city will work diligently to minimize adverse impacts on businesses and residents.

WHERE: Hospital Street between 5th and 7th Streets (located in the 6th voter district)

BACKGROUND:  The area will be closed to allow VDOT to perform repairs on the bridge. Work is planned for September 15 with the September 16 as a rain date.
