The city of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is repairing a 24 inch water main at the intersection of Harrison and Cumberland streets. While repairs are underway, the intersection will be closed to traffic for the next 10 days through Monday, Feb. 2, weather permitting.
Due to safety concerns, area walkways have been closed to pedestrian traffic. Detours are in place to direct motorists around the construction.
Background:
Water maintenance crews began work on a water leak Monday, Jan. 19, approximately 7:30 a.m., at the intersection. The water main blew out, buckling the street pavement. Water service was restored for the majority of customers by 12:30 p.m. that day.
