                           Street/Alley Closure – Atwell Drive

WHAT:  Street Closure
 
WHEN: September 4 through September 15 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHERE: The alley that runs south to north and intersects with Atwell. The alley ends on the backside of the southeastern corner of 2507 Richmond Highway (in the 8th voter district.

BACKGROUND: The area will be closed for paving. Access to businesses will be maintained.

Advisory: Victim Identified in Sussex Street Homicide Investigation

  Victim Identified in Sussex Street Homicide Investigation

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the Sussex Street homicide investigation as Christopher Barlow, 47, of Richmond.

At approximately 8:52 a.m., Saturday, August 30, officers were called to the 1900 block of Sussex Street for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Barlow, on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Sussex Street Death Investigation

                                       

Today at approximately 8:52 a.m., officers were called to the 1900 block of Sussex Street for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and located an adult male, on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

WHERE: The following lanes are temporarily closed at the intersection of Cary Street and Belvidere Street

·         The SB left-turn lane from Belvidere onto Cary Street

  • The SB left-hand through lane on Belvidere, and
  • The EB turn lane on Cary toward Belvidere going North  

BACKGROUND: The lanes are closed to allow the concrete to properly set after emergency repairs to the traffic signal vault earlier today. Please use caution and follow posted signs. Thank you for your patience.

WHERE: Midlothian Turnpike at 32nd Street (5th Voter District)

BACKGROUND: As part of a traffic signal installation project at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and 32nd Street, there will be intermittent lane closures to allow the contractor to install pavement markings at the intersection. Please slow down and pay attention to the signage.

WHEN: August 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Idlewood Avenue at Arthur Ashe Boulevard (5th Voter District)

BACKGROUND: As part of a traffic signal replacement project at the aforementioned intersection, Idlewood Avenue will be temporarily closed to allow the contractor to install conduit. 

Detour Information:

·         Westbound Idlewood Avenue will be closed between S. Arthur Ashe Blvd. and S. Colonial Ave.

 Traffic will continue south on S. Arthur Ashe Blvd.

    • Right onto Blanton Ave.
    • Right onto S. Sheppard St.
    • Detour will end at Idlewood Ave. and S. Sheppard St.

 ·         Eastbound Idlewood Avenue will be closed between S. Colonial Ave. and S. Arthur Ashe Blvd.

    • Left onto S. Colonial Ave.
    • Right onto W. Cary St.
    • Right onto S. Arthur Ashe Blvd.
    • Detour will end at Idlewood Ave. and S. Arthur Ashe Blvd.

BACKGROUND:  The area will be closed to complete the painting of street murals near Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School This work is part of the Office of Equitable Transit and Mobility’s ‘Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper’ Program aimed at making temporary enhancements to improve pedestrian safety while permanent solutions are developed and funded.
